Buying Experts for Luxury Property in Verbier
The Alpine Specialist guide to Verbier, Switzerland
The Ski Resort
Verbier is the quintessential ski chalet resort. Still picture-postcard pretty despite the increase in property development in recent years, it is one of Switzerland’s busiest winter destinations. Resort life centres around the Place Centrale and up along Rue de Medran with lively bars and nightclubs as well as some excellent restaurants. Verbier’s clientele is cosmopolitan. It is popular with the Swiss living in Geneva, Montreux and Lausanne as well as skiers from the UK, Scandinavia, Italy and the Netherlands.
Skiing in Verbier
Verbier links into the Four Valleys, Switzerland’s largest ski area and shared with the nearby ski resorts of Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Les Collons. With over 400 kilometres of pistes there is skiing and snowboarding for every level. The Mont Fort glacier is the highest skiable point (3,330 metres): the glacier ensures there is some skiing from early December to the end of April. The off-piste is easily accessed from the lift system and offers some of the most challenging descents in Europe. Access to the skiing is by the Medran gondola in Verbier’s centre or by the Savoleyres gondola at the northern end of the ski resort.
Summer in Verbier
Verbier welcomes more and more summer visitors every year. The Verbier music festival is a popular event attracting international musicians and an international audience. Other summer activities include mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing.
Buying Luxury Ski Property in Verbier
The combination of an attractive resort centre and high altitude skiing has created a high demand for ski chalets in Verbier. Luxury property for sale in Verbier is rarely seen on the open market. Apartments make up the majority of the property around the Place Centrale and the Medran gondola: traditional ski chalets are more typical away from Verbier’s village centre. Recent mountain chalet developments are good quality. Ski property is also for sale in the nearby villages of Le Chable and Bruson.
The ruling in November 2007 in Valais limits the sales of property to foreign buyers in Verbier. Read more about the impact of the November 2007 ruling on chalet sales in Verbier.
